Young Alberta Book Society introduces YABS TV

The Young Alberta Books Society has been part of our Library calendar for many years.  Every spring YABS and Cenovus Energy partner up and organize free Author visits to our school.  We have had many different Alberta authors visit our school over the years.

Joan Marie Galat

Debbie Waldman

Jacqueline Guest

Bethany Ellis

Nathasha Deen

Sigmund Brouwer

This week we were scheduled to have Marty Chan come visit our school and speak to our students.  Unfortunately with our schools closed due to the pandemic Marty Chan's visit has been postponed.  In order to give Alberta authors and students a chance to meet, YABS has set up a YouTube channel called YABS TV .  You will find many short videos made by Alberta authors introducing you to their books and teaching you about the writing and illustrating process.

Drawing with Mike Boldt

Mike Boldt visited our school in the fall and we had a great time hearing his stories and learning about drawing using food shapes.  Remember our pizza sharks!  Mike has made a couple of videos on his YouTube channel.  Learn how to draw FROG from his book I Don't Want to be a Frog.

Oliver Jeffers

One of our favorite authors, Oliver Jeffers, will be reading a book a day.

Peter H. Reynolds

Peter H. Reynolds, author of The Dot, will be reading and sharing drawing tips every week on his Facebook page

Mo Willems

Mo Willems has started doing Lunch Doodles, learn how to draw the Pigeon, Elephant and Piggie and more of his great characters.

Debbi Ridpath Ohi

Debbie Ridpath Ohi, author and illustrator of Where are my Books, has a great Youtube channel where she reads from her books and also shares drawing tips.

Check out her Broken Crayon Art, they are very creative.  Find great drawing and writing activity suggestions here
